The Best Bakeries near Falmouth!

We’ve talked a lot about the amazing places to eat out in Falmouth and Cornwall, but the reason many of these places have such excellent food is because of the local suppliers they work with. Perhaps the most impressive is Cornwall’s range of bakeries where you can get the most incredible fresh bread and pastries, made with love and artisan creativity…

Whether you’re picking up a luxury loaf for your week in a self-catered cottage, or enjoying a fresh pastry alongside your morning coffee, we’ve got some wonderful places to recommend:

Stones Bakery

With locations in both Penryn and Falmouth, Stones is a favourite of many locals and has built a sense of community and ‘destination venue’ with cafe-style seating and food and drinks to have in or take away. They make a range of incredible breads on the premises (you can see the open bakery attached to the cafe at both sites) and they serve sandwiches and cakes as well. The sourdough is stocked by numerous local cafes and restaurants, and baker Pete has been with them for 16 years!

Stones will also host occasional evening events with pizza and cocktails. Keep an eye on their social media for these, as well as current opening times. This month they are celebrating the Falmouth Christmas lights switch-on with an evening of mulled cider and Yule Dogs (hot dogs in pizza dough, veggie versions available), roast pork rolls, and roast crown prince squash rolls. They know how to host and create a buzzing atmosphere, so it’s sure to be a treat!

Pavilion Bakery

Although they are based in Newquay, Pavilion Bakery has a regular pop-up stall at Tregew Farmer’s Market in Flushing every Saturday, which you’ll recognise because it will have the longest queue! Don’t worry though, as this is a sign of its popularity and it does move quickly.

Pavilion make exceptional sourdough and specialty breads (think rye and seed-bread style!) as well as divine pastries: cinnamon buns, cardamom buns and pain au raisin that you’ll wish you’d stocked up on once you return home! The stall also has some great pantry products like homemade peanut butter, granola and olive oil. The perfect treats for meals in the cottage whilst you’re here, or as souvenirs to take home!

The Cornish Bakery

You’ll see this high street cafe and bakery in many towns across the UK now, but they are of course a staple here in Cornwall where it all began. We have one in Falmouth just opposite the church where the main shopping street takes a bend.

Inside, there’s a perfect little coffee-shop seating area upstairs to enjoy your drinks and pastries, but you can also pick up a take-away as you stroll under the bunting on Church Street. Just watch out for hungry seagulls as you go!

Da Bara Bakery

Founded by brothers Ben and Tim Hawkins, Da Bara are famous for their incredible cinnamon buns! Sadly their St Mawes Harbour cafe closed at the end of Summer 2025, but you can still enjoy their famous cinnamon buns, almond croissants and artisan loaves by shopping from farm shops like Bailey’s in Penryn. They also stock them at Situ Cafe on Commercial Road in Penryn.

You can also order their baked goods online, which is a dangerous discovery!! Once you’ve had them once, you’ll find it hard to stop…

Rowe’s Cornish Bakers

Now quite a big chain by Cornish standards, Rowe’s began in Falmouth in the 1940’s and has sites across the county and beyond. There is a takeaway-come-cafe in the middle of Falmouth (by the Prince of Wales Pier) which is a perfect place to pick up a pasty and sit overlooking the water, or take as a journey snack on the ferry!

If you’ve not tried them before, we also recommend picking up some saffron buns to take home and enjoy hot with butter in your cottage – like a hot cross bun, they are sweet bread with vine fruits, but with the addition of citrus peel and a pinch of saffron to give them their distinctive mellow yellow colour. Delicious, and a Cornish classic.

Baker Tom’s Bread

“It all started with two loaves on Tom’s bike. Baker Tom’s story began in a simple kitchen in the heart of Cornwall. Tom baked his first couple of loaves of homemade bread and with them cycled to his local farm shop.”

Now, this popular Cornish bakery has a local delivery service as well as a shop on Falmouth’s high street where you can browse the most amazing range of breads and pastries. We think they are best for their savoury specialty breads, and can especially recommend the focaccia and cheese scones!

St Agnes Bakery

A 40 minute drive from Falmouth is the beautiful village of St Agnes, well known for surf culture and being the home of clothing brand Finisterre. It also has an excellent bakery which was founded in 1905 and lays a claim to being one of the oldest continually open bakeries in Britain!

Operating from the same site for 100 years, they say “it has been our aim to bake all our breads, cakes, Cornish pasties and giant sausage rolls using time-honoured methods, tried and tested recipes and only the highest quality of ingredients, just like our own mothers showed us.”

We can 100% recommend the giant sausage rolls, perfect to take-away hot for your walk down to Trevaunance Cove, or enjoy on a picnic-stop as you follow the rocky and dramatic coast path past old mining heritage sites.

Flora at Trelowarren Estate

Tucked away on the Lizard Peninsula about 45 minutes drive from Falmouth and Penryn, the Trelowarren Estate is a perfect destination venue for the finest pastries you have ever tasted! The Flora cafe sits in an old stable yard on the historic estate and is now family run, serving a small seasonal pastry menu which is definitely something to write home about! (They also serve light lunches, but the pastries are what’s most recommended by regulars) Expect new flavours which are big on taste as well as size!

After your visit to the cafe, take a walk around the estate and enjoy the other side of the Helford River, or drive on to Kynance Cove or Coverack to see a different part of Cornwall for the day.

We hope this post has inspired you to look further than the big supermarkets for your baked goods whilst on holiday in Cornwall! Make your self-catering experience special by adding some local artisan flavour to your stay!
