Best Restaurants For A Romantic Date Night Near Falmouth

Thinking about our guests who are visiting Cornwall for Valentine’s Day this year, we’ve decided to put together a list of places to go for a romantic evening out near Falmouth (and our holiday cottages.) Take a night off from self-catering and indulge in the wonderful Cornish foodie scene, with some excellent venues and highly rated chefs aplenty…

Harbour House

In the village of Flushing, Harbour House is a popular foodie choice with a relaxed breakfast and coffee atmosphere, leading into a more decadent evening menu. “Our food is cooked over a charcoal ember grill where we’re serving incredible dry-aged Cornish beef and pork, local shellfish, the freshest day boat fish, lobster and our speciality ember roasted queen scallops.”

The building itself is stunning, with open fires and fresh flowers brightening up the space. This is a lovely ‘destination’ venue with wonderful food to match.

Bodega 18

A rustic Spanish-style tapas restaurant in the heart of Falmouth, Bodega serve wonderful dishes with a special nod to owner Ren’s Madrid and Barcelona roots. The building itself is beautifully decorated and is a perfect venue to relax and enjoy each other’s company for the evening! They also have a theatre pre-show deal of 10% off your food bill on presentation of your Falmouth Poly tickets, if you feel like combining food with some entertainment!

St Michael’s Hotel

The hotel next to Gylly Beach in Falmouth is welcoming to non-residents for both lunches and evening meals, so we have to mention their ‘Brasserie on The Bay’ and ‘Nourish’ restaurants. The decor feels like a touch of luxury and before dusk falls, the sea views are stunning!

Restaurant MINE

Situated on Falmouth’s Old High Street, this tiny establishment has gained a reputation locally for a cosy atmosphere and small but perfectly formed menu which celebrates local suppliers. It was included in the Michelin guide for 2024. They are also said to be particularly good at catering to specific dietary requirements, if known in advance, as everything can be adapted and cooked to order. The menu changes regularly and the open kitchen means you feel close to the cooking experience and there is a buzz of noise and activity in the space.

Verdant Seafood Bar

In Falmouth, this tiny tucked-away bar is an off-shoot from the well-recommended Verdant Brewery who are based in Penryn. They pair their fine drinks (8 lines of the freshest Verdant) with locally sourced seafood tapas dishes. They also have a full wine menu and some vegetarian options available. This really is a small space though, so expect to be close together with other diners and people sitting at the bar!

Indidog

A modern-style eatery on the harbour’s edge in Falmouth, Indidog serves excellent brunch and lunch as well as dinner service which they say ‘is much finer than lunch featuring 4 starters, 4 mains, 4 desserts and an in-house specials board to utilise the daily catches and market specialities. Our evening menu is concise and carefully crafted. Everything is cooked fresh to order by a team of talented chefs.”

Castaways

Next to the marina in Mylor, Castaways serves small plates, mains, pizzas, and speciality dishes like locally caught lobster are available by pre-order. The decor is traditional, nautical style and you’ll likely get a view over the yacht harbour, gently lit even in the evening!

Culture

Nestled into a red-brick, low-ceilinged hideaway in the centre of Falmouth, Culture is a Michelin Green Star restaurant which serves a set menu in front of their open kitchen. The hosts explain the local story behind each of their dishes, and provide their recommended wine pairings to compliment your meal. Well known for being an excellent venue for a more lavish occasion, this is sure to be popular over Valentine’s weekend! Chef Hylton says “I allow nature and the seasons to dictate the menu and not the other way around. The menu must take you on a journey, whether that may be nostalgic, geographic or somewhere new and exciting. The names are whimsical and follow the trend of being named after what inspired the dish. We are not foraging to follow a trend, we are doing it for flavour and sustainability.”

The Falmouth Hotel

On the seafront, the newly-renovated Falmouth Hotel is hosting a decadent Valentine’s Sharing Dinner: “Start your special evening with locally caught rock oysters, before diving into our sumptuous selection of starters. For the main event, savour our indulgent Porterhouse steak or salt baked celeriac steak. End the night on a sweet note with our showstopping ‘Champagne and Chocolates’ dessert, or artisan cheese platter.” £95 for two people sharing, and book with the hotel in advance for this one!

The Beach House

Newly opening the week before Valentine’s Day 2025, the owners of Harbour House have taken over the stunning location of the old ‘Hooked on The Rocks’ restaurant at Swanpool. The Beach House is definitely eagerly anticipated and we can’t wait to hear what you think…

As well as wonderful local restaurants, we also have these guides to local spa days or coast path walks to enjoy together. We definitely recommend booking ahead as this weekend could be busy at some of the smaller venues! However you spend it, we wish you a wonderful weekend…
