Spa Days Near Our Cottages
Here in Cornwall we have fresh air and outdoor adventure aplenty, but did you know that we also have a spectacular range of spas and luxury indulgence too?! With hydrotherapy and wellbeing gaining popularity in recent years, many of the hotels and event venues in Cornwall have developed their own unique spa offerings, perfect for all-year round relaxation whatever the weather. Here are a few of our favourite spa days near our cottages …
St Michael’s Resort
St Michael’s is probably the best known venue for a spectacular spa day in Falmouth. Situated just opposite Gyllyngvase Beach, they have a purpose-built hydrotherapy pool with different stations and jets carefully designed to soothe the whole body. As well as the state-of-the-art pool, there is an indoor Herbal Finnish sauna, two steam rooms (jungle and sea salt ‘flavoured’!), experience showers, and outdoor barrel sauna, plunge pool and huge outdoor hot tub with views of the sea and gardens.
You can book a standalone two-hour pass to all of these facilities, or choose a spa day package which combines your spa access with treatments, drinks, lunch or dinner in the ‘Nourish’ or ‘Brasserie on the Bay’ restaurants. Examples of the spa days include ‘Twilight Spa’, ‘Detox Retox’, ‘Mums to Be’, ‘Afternoon Teatox’, ‘Couples Spa Day’, ‘Elemis Total Indulgence’, ‘Refresh & Fizz’ and several more! The prices range from £30 to £205 so there are a variety of options for any budget.
Budock Vean Hotel
Another local option sits on the banks of the Helford River in Mawnan Smith; the Budock Vean offers more treatment-based spa days including ‘Healing With The Seasons’, ‘Soul Retreat’ and ‘Peaceful Pregnancy’ where a massage, facial or manicure is combined with access to the hotel swimming pool and sauna. They also offer a ‘Precious Moments for 8-16 Year Olds’ spa day package which is perfect for Mums and daughters looking to spend time together, and an unusual option as many local spa days are only open to adults.
All the Budock Vean spa packages include access to their pool, hot tub and sauna between 10am and 5pm, a light lunch, dessert, and drink, as well as unlimited tea and coffee in the spa lounge. Prices range from £50 – £150 and spa days here are suited to more of an all-day experience than St Michael’s which allows for a two-hour slot in the facilities.
Soul Sweats
Just half an hour’s drive away from Falmouth is the new ‘wild spa’ experience from Soul Sweats, based at the Eco Park near Porthtowan. Recently set up by Wim Hof instructor Sam Boot, the outdoor spa offers a natural and rustic vibe, with two saunas, and plunge/ice baths available in a natural setting with views across the valley to the sea – not a drop of chlorine to be found anywhere!
They also hold a lot of specific events with facilitators leading sessions such as hot & cold therapy, breathwork, restorative yoga, sound healing, meditation, and ceremonial circles. Pricing ranges from £11 for a communal sauna hour, to £125 for a full day retreat (which happen on select dates only, check out their website for details!)
The Cornwall
In St Austell, The Cornwall Hotel & Spa offers a range of spa day packages spa in a converted barn on their 19th-century estate. An infinity pool has views out across the parkland and the spa packages here are good value because they include pool access, treatments and food or drinks for around £55-£70.
They make a point of noting that their whole spa and pool area is family friendly, 7 days a week, so this may alter the atmosphere, depending on when you choose to go!
The Headland
Around 45 minutes drive away in Newquay is the Headland Hotel which is well known across Cornwall for its spectacular spa days. They have both their ‘Thermal Journey’ which includes a hydrotherapy pool with bubble seats and swan neck jets, Cornish salt steam room, Swedish sauna, aromatherapy showers and jacuzzi, and also the ‘Aqua Club’ which has both indoor and outdoor pools. Some spa days include access to both, some just one or the other, and a range of treatments and food options at multiple restaurants are available too.
Packages range from £55 to £230. If you’re heading over to Newquay to visit the Headland, we also recommend taking in some of the stunning and dramatic north coast beaches, which have a distinctly different feel to our relatively sheltered coves here on the south coast! Fistral is the closest and is a great spot for watching the waves as well as walking along the sand…
Mullion Cove
If you’re heading in the other direction for a day, the Mullion Cove Hotel is recommended for their fantastic spa days, with half-day and two-hour twilight sessions available to fit around your day out exploring the Lizard Peninsula.
The spa has a range of treatments available, including one using the supernutrients of seaweed to soothe and heal your skin! Lunch and dinner are part of several packages, and prices range from £69 – £150.
