Autumn and Winter Wellness Activities in Cornwall
As we reach the end of the year more suited to hibernation, we’re sharing some of the cosy wellbeing activities that you can enjoy on your holiday to Cornwall, no matter what the weather may be like outside. With a thriving wellness scene, you can find yoga, massage, sauna and soundbaths right on your doorstep, and some which will even come to you!
Yoga in Mylor
Just next to the marina in Mylor is the beautifully renovated Sol Seek studio, where you can find a full year-round schedule of yoga and pilates classes, as well as one-off events. “From sound healings and inversion workshops to cacao ceremonies and beyond, there’s something for everyone to deepen their practice or simply explore something new.” They also have a resident masseuse, Maria, who is available every Friday and specialises in Bamboo Massage, Sports Massage, Holistic Massage, and Deep Tissue Massage. Visit the cafe next door afterwards, or pair your class with a coastal walk to Flushing and take in the scenic views.
Yoga in Penryn
The equally lovely Sunshine Cafe & Yoga has a busy class timetable featuring a range of yoga styles from a selection of teachers. Along with their delicious cafe, they hold seasonal events such as a Harvest Festival and Christmas Market, so do take a look to see what’s happening there during your stay! It’s a wonderful place to go for fresh, local food and a sense of the wellbeing community here in Cornwall.
Yoga in Falmouth
Heading into Falmouth, you have the brilliant Kula Yoga Studio. The word Kula is used to describe a sense of inclusion and belonging, which this studio integrates into each practice they do. A great range of classes on offer in their fully equipped studio, so no need to panic if you forgot your mat. You are sure to find the right one for you.
Saunas Near Falmouth and Flushing
We have not one but two resident sauna companies offering beach-side sessions where you can sweat and swim to your heart’s content! There’s something special about hot and cold therapy out in the elements rather than in a gym…
Escape to the Sauna are based at The Greenbank Hotel this season (look across the water from Flushing and you’ll see it!) Kiln Sauna have sites both on Gylly Beach in Falmouth and at Flushing’s Kiln Quay, and a new pop-up location on the Helford River at the Ferryboat Inn.
On the lookout for a property with a sauna, check out Pondhu, with they great new addition!
Massage
For a restorative hands-on treatment whilst you’re here, visit Heal in Falmouth on the Old High Street, Falmouth Natural Health Practice, or The Wellness Hub which is on the outskirts of town with easy parking. Both provide a range of massage styles with good availability from practitioners.
You could also book Cornwall Mobile Massage Service to come and give you a treatment in your holiday cottage! “Our therapeutic team can cater to individuals, couples and groups – perfect for family gatherings, bridal parties, getaways with friends and other special occasions. Please get in touch, and we’ll be delighted to coordinate your bespoke treatment package.”
Sound Baths in Perranarworthal
Tina at Heart and Soul Cornwall does the most amazing sound baths in her wooden cabin just between Falmouth and Truro. Relax to the sound of crystal bowls or combine your session with breathwork or a creative practice at one of their upcoming events (check her website for details).
Creative Workshops
Naku Ceramics studio in Penryn offer wholesome pottery workshops where you can get your hands on clay and experiment with making mugs, pinching pots or having a go on the wheel with expert tutor Alisha. Every Friday is Open Studio, or book in a bespoke session at a time which suits you.
If you fancy a slightly less messy version, then Starglazers in Falmouth do pottery painting where the ceramics are made, for you and you can just enjoy decorating with a glass of something in hand!
Breathwork Sessions
Kat Stott of The Physical Evolution holds transformative breathwork sessions at the Zed Shed in Penryn, where she guides “conscious connected breathwork to get to know yourself on the deepest level.” The sessions can feel invigorating as well as relaxing, and are suitable for beginners or those who have practiced breathwork before.
