Visit Falmouth Food Festival
23rd – 26th May
Visitors to our holiday cottages in late May will definitely want to check out the Falmouth Food Festival – a free event in the town which takes place across the weekend of 23-26th. Held on the waterfront at Church Street, the space will be full of local hand-picked food vendors, live music performances, expert chef demos and a range of local artisan crafts and maker stalls.
Now in its third year, the festival offers day-to-night entertainment, perfect for all ages, and is very suitable to either pop by for twenty minutes during a trip to Falmouth, or stay while away the whole day listening to music and eating and drinking to your heart’s content!
The Chef’s Theatre
A selection of live demos across the weekend will showcase each chef sharing their passion for sourcing and using local ingredients and seasonal produce. The line-up of inspiring speakers includes:

Falmouth-born chef Finn Johnson from Hevva, Falmouth’s freshest seafood restaurant on the old high street. Drawing inspiration from North Atlantic shores, Finn uses “old-world flavours with a French and Spanish heart, seafood classics given a new lease of life for modern tastes, and famous deep rich sauces!”
Also performing a live demo is Jonny Mutch from Plonkd restaurant in Wadebridge – he will share one of his most-loved dishes: stuffed baby squid with spanish rice, served with a glass of sherry. To follow, you can expect his signature blend of modern mixology and Mexican flavours—featuring his Spicy Margarita recipe.
Jude Kereama will also take to the stage on Friday – the award-winning chef behind Kota and Kota Kai in Porthleven. He blends his Māori, Chinese and Malaysian roots with the best of Cornish produce. His unique style has gained him three AA Rosettes and multiple appearances on the Great British Menu, so you may recognise him cooking!
As well as bringing his Trattoria on wheels to the vendor stalls, Ugo Massabo of ‘The Cornish Italian’ will grace the Chef’s Theatre for a live demo on Bank Holiday Monday. His tiramisu is a dessert held in high esteem by those who have tried it!
Head chef Jack from festival sponsor The Beach House brings a master class in preparing locally sourced fish and shellfish (time to be confirmed). They work closely with local fishermen and suppliers and make the most of what is available each day.
Owner and Head Chef of Michelin-recognised Restaurant MINE in Falmouth, Angus Bell, will be taking to the Chef’s Theatre on Saturday at 2pm for sustainable seasonal cooking and sharing his creative twist on British classics. Another local favourite!
Kate Attlee of Sabzi Deli and Masterchef fame will be also bringing her flair for flavours, on Saturday at 4pm. Championing humble ingredients whilst showcasing traditional family recipes, Kate is inspired by her roots in both Cornwall and the Middle-East.
Also taking to the stage is Simon Stallard, the man behind The Hidden Hut, who will be headlining the Chef’s Theatre on Saturday 24th May at 5pm. Known for creating memorable experiences, Simon has garnered critical acclaim from his signature high-quality outdoor dining.
This is just a sample of the final line-up of guests to the Chef’s Theatre over the weekend, so keep an eye out on social media for times and announcements!
Live Music
All the eating, drinking, watching and learning will be accompanied by live music performances from local artists. A whole range of acts have been confirmed across different genres, showing Cornwall’s creative arts scene at its best.

Supper Clubs
Falmouth’s famous Naughty Nonnas are hosting not one but two supper clubs over the weekend, and this is the only part of the festival you will need to pre-book for.
FRIDAY 23rd: A sun-drenched Italian summer on a plate – arancini, burrata, pink pickles & our signature summer veg lasagna.
SATURDAY 24th: A Caribbean-inspired menu – jerk chicken, hot honey plantain & coconut chocolate bliss pie.
Both evenings feature cocktail & wine pairings to match – limited seats at £55pp. They really make an occasion of eating together and celebrating great food, so we’re sure you’ll enjoy these offerings!

Local Food Stalls and Artisan Produce
We love the number of Cornish makers that can be brought together at events like these… from drinks and spirits to preserves and chutneys, salts and sauces, to ice-cream!
Cornwall is full of unique small-batch makers with heart and a story to tell. Meet them and hear about the ethos behind the food they create – we’re sure you’ll be inspired to take some home as a souvenir.
Confirmed vendors so far include Elixr Wine, Roskilly’s, Great Scott Hot Sauce, The Cornish Italian, Bien Manger, Simply Bakes, Pizza Pls, Psyk, Kelp Canteen, Saffron Huns and The Magic Whisk.
Some will be takeaway food to eat on the day, whilst others offer packaged food to take home to your self-catering cottage, or even back home with you to make the taste of Cornwall last longer!

Visiting Falmouth
If you’re staying in one of our Mylor or Flushing cottages, we definitely recommend taking the small passenger ferry across the water to Falmouth for your visit. Parking is likely to be busy over the bank holiday weekend.
If you do drive, park in one of the bigger carparks, or why not park near the beaches (Gyllyngvase or Castle) and wander into town from there? It takes about ten minutes and you’ll get to stroll past the lovely high street and harbour views.

We really hope you enjoy your May Bank Holiday in Cornwall, however you choose to spend it! If we can be of any assistance at all in planning your holiday cottage stay, don’t hesitate to get in touch.
