Falmouth After Five – The best discounts in Falmouth this Winter
Falmouth has one of the highest percentages of independent businesses of any town in the UK, and this character and charm is one of the reasons we love being so close by. This Winter, local restaurants, bars and pubs are coming together to offer special ‘Falmouth After Five’ deals to encourage us to visit in the evenings.
We’ve made a list of the offers available on the first Friday of each month, including what we like about the place and which holiday cottage guests we’d recommend each place for…
The Working Boat – One free house drink with main course.
Situated at the bottom of The Greenbank Hotel, this is a gorgeous waterfront pub with traditional food and excellent portion sizes – and it’s dog friendly. If you’re nautically inclined, you can arrive by boat and moor up at their private pontoon too. They also play host to a fantastic wood fired sauna on the green outside, with a perfect dipping spot into the harbour for those brave enough! Then a free drink to warm up with your dinner, sounds good to us!
Windjammer – Two of the same cocktails for £14.
A brunch, cafe, dinner and bar, Windjammer serves ‘a mixture of British & American comfort foods’ with much of their menu cooked in their outdoor smoker all year round. The bar serves all your usual suspects, as well as cocktails – both traditional and new recipes from their expert bartenders!
The Seaview Inn – Free pool table from 5pm.
A traditional pub overlooking the harbour, but with a twist. Their food menu is made up of authentic Indian dishes from the tandoor and the grill, from rotis to sizzling tandoori platters and homemade curries. Be ready for spice! Accompanying your meal, or your game of pool, are the locally loved Verdant brews, as well as local beers and ciders.
Catch & Cut – Book 5.30–6pm, get 25% of your bill as a voucher to use on your next visit.
Also in Events Square, Catch and Cut is a Rustic seafood and steak restaurant which also has a vegan option, and a kids menu. The owners are also the people behind The Shed and The Shack (next door) so they have a track record of providing great food in this part of town! The restaurant is also part of Cornwall Good Seafood Guide and they support the Fisherman’s Mission, a national charity that works solely to help fisherman and their families.
Harry’s Taqueria – Classic nachos and a pint of Corona for £12.50
One of Falmouth’s newer restaurants, Harry’s is a Mexican taverna with all its food ‘homemade and authentic.’ Head there for a warming dish on a winter evening – apparently it’s especially good for those who are gluten-free because they use 100% corn tortillas. A nice change from a traditional pub (although we do love these!) and great to see new places opening in town.
Boathouse – Fries and a pint/wine for £8.
One of your closest options if you’re getting the ferry from Flushing (although check last crossing times!) The Boathouse is a well-loved pub perched above the Greenbank with views across the harbour to Flushing. There is a large indoor area as well as popular heated terrace, often full with a vibrant crowd on weekend evenings! They serve traditional pub food, as you can tell by the chips and a pint deal!
The Shed – ANY two drinks for the price of one from 5-7pm.
Nestled in Events Square with easy parking right outside, The Shed is famous for its cocktails, with an extensive menu and mixture of lounge-area seating as well as restaurant tables. You can eat here too, but only some tables are dog-friendly so do book and let them know if you’re bringing a pal with paws.
The Games Room – 20p off all pints between 5-7pm.
Exactly what it says on the tin, this place is all about play! They have nine English pool tables, one match snooker table, 1 9ft American Pool table, air hockey, 1 E-Dart board, 1 dart board, two table tennis tables, giant Jenga, table football, a games console and over 60 board games, so you’ll not be short of choice! They also show several sporting events so check what’s on if you know you would, or would not, like a sporting background to your evening!
The Grapes – Pints of Guinness for £3.65
One of Falmouth’s oldest pubs, dating back to the 1700’s, you’ll find a wide range of local real ales, ciders, beers, wines and spirits aplenty! They don’t do food as there’s no kitchen, but you’re welcome to bring in food from one of the many fantastic nearby eateries, including Meat Counter, Habeneros, Chic Pea, Harbour Lights… the takeaway options are excellent in this central part of town. It’s totally dog-friendly, too!
Chain Locker – Double spirits for £8 from 5-10pm, Kids eat free with an adult meal, £1 off brand drinks from 4-7pm.
The Chain Locker is offering not one, not two, but three offers for Friday after Five this year. One of Falmouth’s favourite pubs, set in the heart of town at Custom House Quay, you have the option of a more restaurant style upstairs with booths and dining tables, or a cosy pub with logburners down below! Dogs are only allowed downstairs, so bear this in mind when planning.
Fives Cyderhouse – £12.50 for all pizzas and £5.20 pints & £5.20 house doubles.
Owned by Healey’s (of the Cider Farm!) this is a classic pizza and pint location with a large indoor area and pub garden out the back. Perfect for a casual refuel after a day on the coast path or exploring the shops.
Kernowine – 2 small plates and a medium keg wine for £20.
A sophisticated little wine bar with tapas-style small plates, Kernowine is perfect for a date night or a larger group table booking. They serve over 20 wines by the glass, as well as cocktails, beers, ciders and soft drinks. Expect quality and a taste of the good life, as well as lovely ambience!
The Poly – 2 cocktails for £15
As well as live performances, film screenings and workshops, the Poly has a cafe/bar which you can enjoy on a Friday evening, overlooking the high street from a stylish scandi interior!
Harbour Lights – Free drink (wine/beer/non-alcoholic) with any meal.
Falmouth’s most famous Fish and Chip shop has great views, a friendly atmosphere and whilst it can’t pretend to be the healthiest choice, they have a strong sustainability ethos and source their fish as close to home as possible, often from just down the road in Newlyn.
We hope you enjoy this extra excuse to eat out! If we can help you with planning any other aspect of your stay, please do get in touch!
