Cornish Coffee Brands To Try Whilst You’re Here

Did you know about the thriving coffee scene here in Cornwall? As well as beautiful scenery and a rich history, Cornwall is home to a handful of passionate coffee connoisseurs making amazing blends which they supply both regionally and nationally.

Whilst you’re staying in your self-catering cottage, you might be on the lookout for a local place to pick up an artisan morning coffee made for you, or perhaps a local blend to bring back and brew in your moka pot or caffetiere? Slow mornings with a hot drink overlooking the water? That sounds like a holiday in Cornwall! Here are our recommendations for Cornish coffee companies:

Origin Coffee

Based in Porthleven, Origin Coffee is well known locally, supplying both cafes and restaurants here in Cornwall, and in London. They have a roastery which you can visit for tours, which is also where many local baristas are trained in their craft. You can also take ‘Enthusiast Courses’ in Latte Art and Espresso Making, as well as Coffee Tasting experiences.

To try a cup near our cottages in Flushing and Mylor, head to Harbour House who proudly serve Origin. Sit and gaze over the water, enjoy the indoor log fires, or get a take-away and head to the beach. If you’re over in Falmouth, their sister restaurant Beach House at Swanpool stocks the same…

Olfactory Coffee Roasters

Initially a ‘behind the scenes’ roastery tucked away in Penryn, Olfactory now have their own shop in central Falmouth. “The name Olfactory was first inspired by a play with the words “old” and “factory”, based on the building that the roastery was built. Olfactory is also the sense through which we perceive smells, and it also plays an important role in taste.”

The founders Mariya and Angel are passionate about sourcing ethically and creating community around coffee! They also sell specialty  hot chocolate and merchandise…

Alongside their own cafe, they still supply a number of local cafes and restaurants, including Dough & Dowr horsebox on the beach at Gylly (Falmouth). Enjoy a morning flat white alongside one of their amazing bagels!

Yallah Coffee Roasters

At their base just outside Falmouth, Yallah have a strong environmental ethos: we import coffee by sail, use plastic-free packaging and have eliminated all single-use cups from our cafés. Our roastery is powered by renewable energy and we’re composting over 50% of our food & coffee waste on site.” All of this, and it tastes great too!

Try a cup at Espressini in Falmouth (near the Moor), or the amazing Potager Garden (cafe in a greenhouse, just outside Constantine). Yallah also have their own cafe ‘Work/Shop’ on Commercial Road in Penryn, and a boutique cafe over in St Ives.

Lars and Margo Coffee Roasters

A small family team, Lars and Margo roast in small batches with their roaster named Geneveive! Peter and Mandy, the founders, build genuine relationships with their customers and farmers, supplying hotels and cafes around Bodmin.

You can try their blends at Talland Bay, Captain Hanks in Fowey, The Prideux Walled Garden, and Paws for Coffee in Looe, amongst others!

Cornish Coffee

Brewing since 1986, this is one of the oldest coffee companies in Cornwall. They also make tea, and supply many local cafes and restaurants. Head to Mylor Cafe or ‘Life’s A Beach’ at Maenporth to sample a cup on your morning walk, or enjoy an after-dinner drink at The Pandora Inn. They also supply ‘Punchbowl and Ladle’, a small pub in Feock near Trelissick Gardens and the King Harry Ferry, and The Rising Sun pub in St Mawes, so you’re well covered on your days out towards the Roseland Peninsula.

Dark Pony Coffee

Beginning with a popular coffee shop in the heart of Falmouth (on the Moor), the boys at Dark Pony recently set up their own ‘micor-roastery’ in the space behind the cafe. They have begun to source, roast, package, distribute, and serve the coffees they’re passionate about, and will always be up for a chat about all things beans if you pop in! The cafe also sells amazing cakes made in-house, and pastries from Native Grain bakery.

We love that there are so many independent and local businesses here in Falmouth and the surrounding area. So please, when you visit, take the chance to support some of them rather than choosing a familiar chain… we promise you’ll be glad you did!
