Autumn in Cornwall

Autumn in Cornwall

Cornwall is one of those places which is astonishing through all the seasons. When autumn arrives upon us, everything seems to slow down again to the peaceful way of life which we are so used to down here in our special corner of England. The beaches are quieter, emptier and every so often you will have one completely to yourself. We find this time of year to be oh so relaxing and stress relieving and better still the delicious food is still here too. Autumn is a fantastic time of year to stay in our cottages and here is our suggestion of a few of our things to do in Cornwall.

Lots of Energy but Less Busy

Even with the quieter streets and paths, Cornwall still boasts plenty of atmospheres and a greater opportunity to soak in the Cornish scenery with much shorter queues and minimal traffic, leaving extra time to enjoy the sights of our beautiful county. Any sights, scenery or attractions which one may have been avoided in the summer are an absolute must at this time of year. Some of our favourites in the quieter months are Heligan Gardens, Kynance Cove, Porthcurno Beach, the whole of St Ives (and there are many more worth visiting).

Dog Friendly Beaches

One of our favourite things about the autumn is that from the 1st October all seasonal dog beach bans are lifted and our Cornish beaches turn into sandy play parks for our pooches who soak in the sea air and love the feeling of sand between their paws. Our local beaches Gyllyngvase, Swanpool and Maenporth are amazing we have to admit, and they are wonderful for any of our four-legged friends and who can’t stop wagging their tails.

The Weather is a Delightful Surprise (Most of the Time)

Surprising as it may be, the weather still astounds us every year in autumn, with beautiful blue skies which still results in a few beach days and even the possibility of getting a tan. Also, with the days getting shorter as winter approaches, there seems to magical glow in the autumn air which feels like we are on the verge of the golden hour rays of light that glimmers off the countryside. This light is glorious to be a part of, especially while breathing in the fresh sea breeze and it is a great time of year for photographers looking for those spectacular golden shots.
