Our Favourite Places to Eat Outdoors
One of the greatest joys of spending summer in Cornwall is surely being able to sit down in the sunshine and enjoy fresh, local food from the county’s renowned culinary scene. We’ve got a handful of firm favourites in the vicinity of our holiday cottages which we’d love to share with you. In no particular order, here are a range of takeaways in beautiful locations, pub gardens to relax in, and restaurants with outdoor terraces.
The Pandora Inn
Accessible by water and by road, the famous floating pontoon at the Pandora in Restronguet is a pretty special place to eat. Choose from a full menu of pub food for lunch and dinner, and watch the boats, kayaks and paddleboards go by…

Castaways
In Mylor Churchtown, the Castaways restaurant is a mixture of seafood and bistro dining. The small but picturesque outdoor seating area overlooks the yacht harbour and the gentle bustle of this local beauty spot.

The Royal Standard
Catching the last of the sun in Flushing, the grassy garden at The Royal Standard is a gorgeous spot for a pub meal or pizza! From its raised position up behind the pub itself, you can look across for glimpses of Falmouth and the Penryn River all evening long. Food service is 12noon to 2:30pm and 5:30pm to 8:30pm with cold tapas available in between those times.

Cafe Mylor
Another favourite in Mylor Churchtown, the cafe serves breakfast and lunch with occasional dinner events and a regular ‘Catch’ Friday night seafood themed dinner in the summer season. The outdoor seating area is a lovely suntrap with views out across the marina and into the Carrick Roads.

Indidog
If you’re feeling a little fancier, Indidog is tucked away off Falmouth’s main high street with a beautiful terrace over the harbour. With just a small number of perfectly situated outdoor tables, it could be worth booking ahead…

Windjammer Cafe
Outdoor restaurant seating is harder to find in the middle of Falmouth, but the Windjammer has both a covered balcony and courtyard seating. Open for brunch, lunch and dinner, this is a lovely pausing place from a day of shopping or exploring in town! Their sister cafe, Muddy Beach, also has a great outdoor terrace at the head of the river in Penryn.

Potager Gardens
Locals will always recommend the beautiful Potager ‘cafe in a greenhouse’ which is just outside Falmouth near Constantine. Mainly open for lunch (with occasional evening events), you can either eat on the big outdoor tables in the shade, or enjoy your food in the luscious greenhouse. They also have deckchairs that you can take out onto the lawns, and perhaps practise a bit of badminton if the net is up!

The Chain Locker / The Stable
In Falmouth’s town centre, Custom House Quay hosts the outdoor eating areas for both the historic Chain Locker pub, and the small West-Country pizza chain ‘The Stable’. Watch the world go by and soak up the buzz with a pizza or pub meal and a pint.

Castle Beach Cafe
Another beach-day favourite, Castle Beach Cafe is a small take-away which serves amazing fresh lunches, cakes and ice creams all summer. There are a few under-cover picnic tables, but most people take their food down onto the beach or sit on the wall and stare out to sea!

Dough an Dowr
Situated perfectly on the edge of Gylly Beach and the Queen Mary Gardens in Falmouth, this pale green converted horsebox has become locally known for its delicious daytime bagels and evening pizzas. Takeaway and enjoy an evening on the sand or under palm trees in the gardens!

Hooked On The Rocks
A higher-end seafood specialty restaurant at Swanpool, Hooked on The Rocks has a beautiful terrace overlooking the beach and the wider Falmouth Bay. Go for tapas and tasters, or a full evening meal!
Hooked On The Rocks
As always, we love to hear where you’ve visited during your stay, especially places you’d recommend to other guests! Fingers crossed for a summer of sunshine so that we can all enjoy some alfresco dining in the next few months to come…
