Falmouth Week 2024

A highlight of the Cornish calendar, Falmouth Week has evolved from being a traditional sailing regatta to a whole-town affair, with events happening across sea, land and sky!

We’ve put together a guide for those wishing to visit during this vibrant celebration in our local town…

On The Water

The sailing races take place from August 11th to 17th with yachts and day boats taking part in fleet racing across the Carrick Roads and out in the wider Falmouth Bay. If you check the schedule online, you can choose the best vantage point to watch the racing from the shore. Pendennis Headland is a good option, but some races can also be seen from Cliff Road and the beaches.

In The Sky

On the Wednesday of Falmouth Week, August 14th, the skies above the beaches will feature aerobatic performances by the Jet Pitts, The Titans, and Aerosuperbatics WingWalkers. The shows begin at 6.15pm, so this could be a perfect chance to spend an evening on the beach, perhaps with some food and drinks from some of our local vendors!

We are all keeping our fingers crossed for sunny weather on the Wednesday, but do keep an eye on news updates if you are making plans for this event as it is dependent on clear skies.

On Friday night, 16th August, the fantastic fireworks will once again take place over Trefusis Headland. These can be seen really well from the Falmouth town quaysides and piers, or from the beaches at Flushing and Mylor if you are staying at one of our holiday cottages there!

(Saturday 17th August will be reserved as a wet weather back-up for fireworks.)

Falmouth Week - The Titans

On The Land

The shoreside programme runs all week in Falmouth town, and there’s something for all ages, with activities running morning, noon and night!

As tradition goes, the week kicks off with the Pink Wig Parade on the Friday night before Falmouth Week (this year it’s on the 9th August). Hundreds (both men and women!) take to the streets dressed in pink to raise money and awareness for the Breast Care Team at the Royal Cornwall Hospital, Truro and Breast Cancer Now

On the first Saturday, 10th August, the Falmouth Marine Band will begin the Falmouth Week Parade at 6.30pm and make their way through town from Killigrew Street towards Events Square. The Saturday Carnival Night is FREE to attend, and stars Falmouth Soul Sensation

Throughout the week, the evenings will be filled with marquee concerts by tribute bands such as Fleetwood Bac (August 11), The Foos Fighters, and AC/DC UK (August 13). Thursday 15th is an SKA night with Rudi’s Message returning this year with support from Mod Life Crisis. These are ticketed events and you can get all the details on the Falmouth Week Website.

The second Saturday night (17th August) is the big 80’s vs 00’s Extravaganza to close the week of entertainment! The lineup includes Slipmatt, Pat Sharp, Coyote, and Goldie Lookin Chain (GLC) and you can get tickets here

Day Time Events

Falmouth Week is most definitely a whole-family affair, with the daytime buzz around the town palpable for anyone coming to visit. All week, The Moor will host a traditional carousel, interactive games, and children’s entertainment, as well as a local maker’s market.

Slightly out of town (a ten minute walk from Events Square), the Princess Pavilions are holding a Comic, Movie, and Anime Fest on August 17th and 18th, raising money for the True Butterflies Foundation.

Event organisers invite visitors to “get ready to meet like-minded enthusiasts, discover rare collectibles, and delve into the depths of fictional universes. Cosplayers are welcome to show off their incredible costumes and take part in our cosplay competition! You might even catch a glimpse of your favourite superhero or anime character walking around!”

Admission is £5.50 for adults and free for children.
