Trelawny, the national anthem of Cornwall, a verse you are bound to hear a lot over the fantastic weekend that is Falmouth International Sea Shanty Festival. Founded in 2003 with the mission of keeping the history of the sea alive, performing brilliant shanties and folk songs.
Walking through Falmouth during the weekend you will hear brilliant performances coming from all directions with a fabulous 25 different venues supporting the festival this year. Expect pop-up bars, street vendors and markets along with groups from across the UK, Europe and Beyond! This is the weekend not to miss in the Falmouth calendar.
Commencing on Friday with a great Gala Concert held at the Princess Pavilions and chances of many other impromptu performances in pubs into the night, as the ale starts following.
Saturday welcomes the the Group Parade, a true spectacle taking to the streets of Falmouth starting from The Prince of Wales Pier at 11am and finishing at Events Square. It’s a great chance to see all the groups taking part in the festival and get you excited for the weekend ahead!
As always it coincides with the brilliant Falmouth Classics weekend, so not only is there plenty of action on land there is also at sea. Two days of racing followed by a parade on Sunday, showcasing a wide range of traditional vessels, sail and power.
Both will be supporting the RNLI, a charity that saves lives at sea.
Powered primarily by kind donations, their search and rescue service has been saving lives for nearly 200 years.
